This CPS is the latest (3rd Generation) and is considered to be the best one yet.
It is claimed to a smart sensor that improves all Powerstrokes with the most
improvement in the later models 00-03.
We have installed this in a '96 that had a fairly new Generation 2 CPS installed
and had no drive-ability issues. The owner reported that it idles smoother and a very
small dead spot during acceleration is now gone. We noticed a that the overall
throttle response was improved during our test drive.
This is a low cost improvement that only requires the removal and re installation of
one bolt and one electrical connector. The old sensor can be difficult to get out of
its bore, but after applying steady pressure while rocking and turning, it will come out.
Just don't do anything that could break the plastic housing and cause part to fall inside.
We apply a light coat of an Anti - Seize compound on the o-ring & back toward the
connector end to the CPS to aid in installation and help it come out in the future.
